The Grand Canyon is, of course, spectacular. But. When we visited there, we’d just come from Bryce. The Grand Canyon definitely suffered in comparison. If we go this way again, I’ll want to do Grand Canyon and then Bryce.

Bright Angel Trail

This photo looks down on the wicked, wicked Bright Angel Trail. The trail goes all the way from the South Rim, to the Colorado River, and over to the North Rim. I took this shot at one of the Red Line shuttle stops. The Red Line goes up to Hermit’s Rest and is a great way to spend a morning or afternoon.

We stayed in Mather Campground, in two different campsites. I booked a bit late and wasn’t able to get one site for all days. And I screwed up our checkout date for both of the sites! Somehow, I got it in my head that we had a total of five nights, two in one site and three in the other. Not so. We had a total of four nights, two and two. So, this resulted in our needing to move out of the first site and go to the second one while the guy who had the reservation for the first site waited patiently. Worse, it resulted in our needing to move out of the second site and head off toward Joshua Tree late in the day. That wasn’t too bad, since we’d planned a short trip to the Cracker Barrel in Kingman, AZ. Cracker Barrel lets RVs park overnight, so we did that. Had dinner and breakfast in the Cracker Barrel, and I got my usual Country Vegetable Plate. That’s a meal put together from a selection of side dishes, and I like it a lot.
