Mount Rushmore 2019

The day we went to Rushmore was very cold and very windy. The cold part worked out fine for me, since there’s a bucketload of stairs to climb to the overlooks. I can huff up bucketloads of stairs much more successfully on a cold day than a hot one, and there were definitely bucketloads of stairs. I liked Rushmore better than I thought I would, but I wouldn’t call it the high point of the trip. Some people that I’ve talked to about the trip seem to think it would be that – the high point and swellest thing of a swell trip.

We’re still doing short shake-down trips with the new Winnie and the traveling cat. Not sure if we’re shaking down the Winnebago or the cat, but caution is probably good with either one. Orland Buttes is a small campground on Black Butte Lake near Orland, California. It’s run by the Army Corps of Engineers, and…

After we left Death Valley, we went to Red Rock State Park. There’s a small campground there, first come first served.  We were luck enough to not only get a site for two nights but to get a really nice site with a level concrete pad and good picnic table. Site number 6, folks. That’s…
