January Hiking

January is a good time to hike in our part of California. Pretty cold, but all that means is that it is not likely to be hot enough to melt your eyebrows right off your face. As it so often is during the summer.

The image above was taken on the Loafer Loop in the Loafer Creek area near the lake. We passed many color variations of this type of fungus – or mushroom – or whatever it is. I looked it up and found that it was a “chicken of the woods” but I don’t remember what kind of thing that is exactly.

Hiking in January anywhere, you don’t see many people. We frequently make the whole round of whatever round it is that we’re doing without seeing a soul. And that’s very, very nice.
